National Invasive Species Awareness Week, February 20 - 26, 2023

Species

Invasive plant species are aggressive plants that grow and reproduce rapidly displacing native species, threatening the biodiversity of the environment and the animals that depend on it.  Invasive species are a major problem locally and nationally, costing the U.S. $120 billion annually for treatment and prevention, crop damage, habitat destruction, etc.

You can make a difference!

The town of Ogden Dunes asks residents to adhere to Indiana Law and not to trade, sell, buy or plant any plants listed on the Indiana Terrestrial Plant Rule list. Ornamental Pear Trees (Pyrus calleryana) and any form of Burning Bush (Euonymus alatus) are not illegal, but are considered invasive and harmful to the environment.  When planning your landscaping this Spring and Summer be sure to check plants against this list to make sure you are not introducing invasive plant species into your yard.
