Community Garden
The Ogden Dunes Community Garden was established in 2015 by the Ogden Dunes Home Association. There are 22 individual raised beds (1 wheelchair accessible) and 5 shared beds. Individual beds (1.5x4x8) are available to lease for $40 (ODHA members) and $50 (nonmembers) per year. Please contact the garden manager below to reserve your plot, or add your name to the waiting list.
Our little community garden is a slice of heaven! It's a fantastic way to gather with old friends, or meet new neighbors. Our experience runs the gamut; from first timers brave enough to test their green thumb, to master gardeners. We all share in every aspect of garden responsibilities. We share information, ideas, triumphs, fails...and great disdain for the horned tomato worm. We follow organic practices, choosing to feed the soil rather than the plant. You'll find no Miracle Grow or Roundup here. Individual beds are yours to garden as you please. Plant what you want,and tend to it on your own. The 5 shared beds (l.Sx4xl0) are tended by all ODCG members. The contents of these beds are preplanned in an effort to consolidate some of the more prolific, unruly, or easily shared plants. Why waste 2 square foot in your individual bed to Thyme and Rosemary if we can share them from a community bed? We have running water, cedar beds filled with a nice soil mix,a new garden shed to store tools, benches for comfort and are enclosed by a 6' fence."
It is so satisfying to meander down to the garden on a gorgeous duneland day,see smiling faces peeking from behind tomato plants or straw hats, discover what is ripe for the picking, taking in new smells and sights around you, deeply breathing in the summer air, loading baskets with the stars of tonight's dinner table... Our garden nurtures more than just plants, it also feeds the soul.
